Your Mouth Is Talking: What It’s Telling You About Your Brain, Heart, and Immunity
by Bryce Wylde and Cheryl Hickey
If your mouth could talk, what would it say about your whole-body health?
Turns out, it’s been talking all along.
Most of us see brushing our teeth and flossing as chores—tasks to check off before bed. But the truth is, your mouth is a mirror for what’s happening inside your body. From brain fog and fatigue to heart disease and cognitive decline, what’s happening between your gums may be silently shaping your entire health story.
Welcome to the world of Leaky Mouth.
If you came here for the Full Playbook, here you go: LEAKY MOUTH
This 140-page eBook Leaky Mouth goes deep into the science, solutions, and real-life impact of oral health on your lifespan. And yes—we estimate proper oral hygiene could add 6 to 7 years to your life.
What Is Leaky Mouth?
Just like you’ve heard of “leaky gut” — where the intestinal lining becomes compromised and allows harmful substances to enter the bloodstream — leaky mouth is its oral counterpart. When gums are inflamed and bleeding, oral bacteria like P. gingivalis, Strep mutans, and Fusobacterium can travel into your circulation. Once inside, these bacteria don’t stay in your mouth. They migrate to your heart, your brain, and your immune system—triggering inflammation and dysfunction wherever they go.
Why Now? Why You?
We’re living longer than ever, but our oral health has declined. The culprit? A processed diet loaded with sugar, chronic stress, mouth breathing, and a staggering neglect of basic oral hygiene. In fact, a national poll we conducted across Canada found that:
- 70% of people don’t understand the mouth-body connection
- 63% don’t floss regularly
- An estimated 75% of people may be living with leaky mouth unknowingly
How to Know If You Have Leaky Mouth
Here are some overlooked signs:
- Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing
- Persistent bad breath (halitosis)
- Dry mouth
- Brain fog
- Fatigue after meals
These symptoms often don’t appear in isolation. Like the flu, leaky mouth is diagnosed by the pattern of signs, not just one.
Check Yourself: The Bleeding Gum Score
You don’t need a lab test to get started. Try this simple self-assessment:
- Floss between each of your teeth (usually 28 spaces)
- Count how many sites bleed
- Divide that number by 28 and multiply by 100
Your Score:
- 0–10% = Excellent
- 11–25% = Early Gingivitis
- 26–50% = Moderate Gum Disease
- 50% = Severe Inflammation / High Risk for Leaky Mouth
The Science Behind the Scare
Oral bacteria feed on the sugars in your diet. P. gingivalis, in particular, thrives on processed carbs like white bread, crackers, and pasta. Once it gets through inflamed gum tissue, it can circulate and potentially contribute to conditions like:
- Alzheimer’s (estimated 15-20% of cases may involve oral bacteria)
- Heart disease
- Autoimmune conditions
Centenarians, by the way, retain 30% more of their natural teeth than those who die in their 60s. Longevity and oral integrity go hand in hand.
Oral pH: The Goldilocks Zone
An ideal saliva pH is 6.8 to 7.2. Too acidic or too alkaline, and you encourage the wrong bacteria.
You can use pH strips to test at home, but honestly, prevention is simpler:
- Brush twice daily (especially before bed)
- Floss (every day!)
- Tongue scrape in the morning
- Use a gentle mouth rinse (avoid alcohol-based)
What Actually Works?
Natural solutions that go beyond hype:
- Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste: Developed by NASA, safer than fluoride, supports enamel
- BLIS K12 Oral Probiotic: Competes against bad bacteria, improves breath and immunity
- CoQ10 (Ubiquinol): Supports gum tissue healing and energy metabolism
- Omega-3s: Reduce gum inflammation
- Strawberry Paste: Natural whitener—but don’t leave it on for more than 2-3 minutes
Cheryl’s pick? A water flosser and a good tongue scraper.
Bryce’s routine? Brush, floss, scrape, chew BLIS K12. Done.
The Myths You Can Ignore
- Oil Pulling Detoxifies the Body: Nope. Mildly beneficial, but not a detox.
- Charcoal Toothpaste Whitens Teeth: Yes, but it can destroy enamel. Avoid.
- Fluoride Is Essential: Only in trace amounts. Too much = toxic.
- Mouth Taping Cures Snoring: It may help with mouth breathing, but it’s not a silver bullet.
- Root Canals Are Safe for Everyone: Not always. Residual infection risk exists. Consider alternatives.
Kids, Sleep, and Oral Health
Mouth breathing and sleep apnea in kids? Huge red flags.
- Linked to sluggish mornings, poor school performance, and even ADHD-like symptoms
- Enlarged tonsils, food sensitivities (dairy, gluten, dyes) often to blame
- Early dental intervention is crucial
Let’s Talk Plastics & Toxins
Your floss might be doing more harm than good if it’s coated in synthetic chemicals. Plastics in oral care products can act as xenoestrogens, disrupting hormones and increasing inflammation. Choose natural, effective alternatives—but if it’s between using plastic floss or not flossing at all? Floss. Every time.
Bottom Line
Floss like your life depends on it. Because, in a way, it does.
Your gums are gatekeepers. Keep them healthy, and you’re not just protecting your smile—you’re protecting your brain, your heart, and your future.
