Protein Shakes

Varieties

Protein shakes are typically made from soy, whey, rice, or egg, or blends of these. They come in a variety of flavors, including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and others. Many natural varieties use less sugar, colors, and flavors, and often contain added fiber. Some, especially thoseĀ madeĀ for people usingĀ shakes as part of a fitness or weight lossĀ program,Ā may contain additional nutrients. Shakes may come in powdered form, or in cans or bottles, usually in single servings.

Preparation, Uses, & Tips

Use soy and protein shakes instead of coffee and Danish for a fast breakfast. Whirl shakes in a blender with a banana or a handful of berries for extra nutrition.

Storing

Store liquid shakes in the refrigerator, unopened, for up to two weeks. Store the powdered or canned variety in a cool, dark location for up to three months.
